Pre-Screening:
All prospective volunteers are asked to complete a volunteer application and invited to attend volunteer orientation. Volunteer Applications should be completed and returned to the Make-A-Wish Foundation® 5201 N. Shartel Ave., Oklahoma City, OK 73118.
Volunteer Orientation:
All prospective volunteers are required to attend an introductory orientation which will include general information about Make-A-Wish Foundation® of Oklahoma, the volunteer program and volunteer policies and procedures. Orientation is held quarterly in both Oklahoma City and Tulsa. For information on our upcoming volunteer orientation, please contact Katie Ray, Volunteer Manager.
Application Screening:
The Volunteer Manager screens returned applications and processes background checks on all volunteers. Because we work with children, we will run a background check and follow up with verification of your references. All information in this application and background check will remain confidential and be used only for screening purposes. Consideration is given to the experience, skill, aptitude, reliability and character of applicants.
Declinations:
The Volunteer Manager brings all recommendations for declination to the Executive Director for review. Reasons for declination include but are not limited to, criminal history or a lack of available positions matching applicant’s qualifications or desires. No persons convicted of a violent crime or crime involving moral depravity can be accepted as a Make-A-Wish® volunteer. A declination acknowledgement will be sent to the applicant.
Volunteer Training:
Volunteers may be asked to attend a position-specific training to help prepare them for their role. Every effort is made to place volunteers in an assignment matching their abilities, interests, and availability.
